The resort was founded in 1853 by a spirited young French immigrant, Ramón Pierre Plasse, and soon became home to his lovely wife, Louise. 

 
155 years later, Plasse's Resort, is recognized as one of the oldest campgrounds in the United States by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.
